Shiliang Tea (Ten-Tael Tea) is a traditional Anhua Dark Tea from Hunan, China, crafted from the Yuntai Mountain Large-Leaf Tea variety. Weighing approximately 362.5g (12.8 oz), it is often called the “Miniature Qianliang Tea,” offering a more approachable and practical way to experience the heritage of the famous Qianliang Tea. Made from carefully selected spring leaves and traditionally wrapped in bamboo and Liao leaves, each tea log combines cultural heritage, collectible character, and everyday brewing convenience.

Rich woody and roasted aromas emerge from the tightly compressed leaves, accompanied by subtle notes of bamboo, pine smoke, and caramel. Once brewed, the liquor becomes bright, clear, and amber-like, with a smooth, mellow body and a distinctive returning sweetness (Huigan). Layers of flavor gradually unfold with each infusion, while the tea remains remarkably resistant to repeated brewing. Whether enjoyed in a gaiwan, mug, or ceramic-lined flask, Shiliang Tea develops greater depth and sweetness over multiple infusions.

Traditional craftsmanship gives this tea its distinctive character. Following methods rooted in the historic production of Hunan dark tea, the leaves undergo steaming, compression, and natural fermentation, followed by careful aging that allows the flavors to evolve slowly over time. Natural bamboo and Liao-leaf wrapping help create a stable environment for continued transformation, while exposure to sunlight, air, and seasonal conditions contributes to its developing aroma and mellow character. With time, the tea becomes smoother, richer, and more harmonious, offering a living expression of traditional Anhua Dark Tea craftsmanship.

Steeping Guidelines

Easy Mug Brew

Use a tea-to-water ratio of 1:100. Put the leaves directly into a mug, add boiling water, and steep for 5 to 7 minutes. When about one-third of the tea remains, refill with boiling water to continue brewing.

Traditional Gongfu Style

Pre-warm the gaiwan or Yixing teapot. Use a tea-to-water ratio of 1:25. Brew with water at 100°C (212°F). For the first two infusions, steep for about 10 seconds each. Gradually increase the steeping time with each additional infusion. Pour the tea liquor completely out after each brew.

Thermal Steeping

Use a tea-to-water ratio of 1:200. Pour boiling water into a ceramic-lined insulated flask or teapot. Close the lid and let it steep for 1 to 2 hours before drinking. When about one-third of the tea remains, refill with boiling water to continue brewing and enjoying.
