Yellow tea, the most underrated among the six major tea categories, finds its champion in Yueyang Yellow Tea 岳阳黄茶. It masterfully integrates various processing techniques, including the "kill-green" of green tea, the fermentation of black tea, the "wet piling" of dark tea, the withering of white tea, and the roasting of oolong tea. This embodies the "golden mean" of Chinese tea culture, earning it the reputation of "the golden mean in tea." Yueyang Yellow Tea harmoniously combines the fresh fragrance of green tea, the delightful character of white tea, the lingering charm of oolong tea, the refreshing quality of black tea, and the richness of dark tea. Its infusion is mellow, sweet, smooth, and richly aromatic, offering a multi-layered and pleasurable tasting experience.

The uniqueness of Yueyang Yellow Tea lies in its precious and original "Yellow Tea Process." The "double yellowing" fermentation technique, painstakingly developed by tea masters, is considered a groundbreaking innovation in China. This process endows the yellow tea with a mellow and durable flavor, a lasting rich aroma, and a bright infusion. The exclusive yellow tea varietals, combined with the meticulous brewing method using spring water, result in a tea liquor of pure color and intense fragrance. Yellow tea is acclaimed by connoisseurs as the "most 'measured' tea" because its Yellowing process is exceptionally precise; the slightest misstep can ruin the entire batch. This particular product uses only the finest top-grade buds, treated with the "double yellowing” process, which significantly reduces bitterness. Its nature is gentle, sweet but not cloying, making it an ideal choice for tea drinkers who find green tea too "cooling". More importantly, during the yellowing process, yellow tea produces a significant amount of digestive enzymes, which aid in gastrointestinal digestion, making it particularly suitable for individuals with weak spleen and stomach or poor appetite. Upon opening, a delightful sweet corn-like aroma greets the senses. The first infusion yields a light yellow, clear liquor, with a sweetness reminiscent of biting into a corn kernel. When brewed hot, it evokes the sweetness of sugarcane; when cold-brewed, it presents the fragrance of fresh, tender corn. Even by the third infusion, a delicate, lingering fragrance of the tea hairs remains, offering an endlessly evocative experience.

Steeping Guidelines

Glass Cup Brew

Use a tea-to-water ratio of about 1:50. Pour 95°C (203°F) hot water into the glass first, then add 3–5g of tea leaves. Watch as the leaves float, unfurl, and gradually sink. Enjoy the tea once the leaves have fully settled at the bottom. Refill when one-third remains. Bottled water is recommended. 

Cold Brew

Use a 1:150 tea-to-water ratio. Add tea and cold or room-temperature water to a container, seal it, and refrigerate for 4–6 hours. The leaves will slowly unfurl, and the tea will be clear with a light aroma. Avoid hot water to preserve the tea’s nutrients and flavor.

Traditional Gongfu Style

Use 3g of tea with a 1:40 ratio and water at 85°C (185°F). Preheat the cup, add the tea, and gently shake the gaiwan to release the aroma. Smell the dry leaves, then pour water along the inner wall at the 6 o’clock position. Quickly pour out the tea once brewed. Smell and savor the flavor.
