Handmade Blue-and-White & Xuande Red “Ma Shang You Qian” Two-Piece Gaiwan

This gaiwan is personally crafted by Master Hu Min, founder of Runcui Tang, a renowned “Langhong lineage workshop” in Jingdezhen. Runcui Tang possesses a profound historical legacy, with its origins tracing back to the Hong family kiln workshops of the late Kangxi period of the Qing dynasty. For centuries, the family has specialized in colored glaze techniques, achieving such mastery that they were frequently commissioned by the Imperial Kiln Factory for their exceptional glaze expertise.

Fully Handmade · Hand-Painted Auspicious Motifs
This gaiwan features a classic pairing of blue-and-white porcelain with Xuande red, creating a vivid yet restrained contrast. It embodies the elegance of Ming-style wares while conveying a sense of auspicious richness.

The entire piece is crafted fully by hand, from wheel-throwing and trimming to glazing and firing. The form is naturally balanced and fluid, and each gaiwan carries the unmistakable warmth and individuality unique to handmade ceramics.

All decorative motifs are entirely hand-painted. The galloping horse is rendered with vitality and strength, its brushwork flowing in a single, confident movement. Coin motifs surround the horse, symbolizing “Ma Shang You Qian”—literally “wealth arrives at once”, and more broadly, immediate prosperity and smooth success. The subtle variations in brushwork are a testament to the fact that each gaiwan is truly one of a kind.

The blue-and-white decoration is calm, deep, and enduring, developing beautifully with use. The Xuande red glaze is rich and mellow, revealing gentle layers under light, lending the vessel a sense of depth, presence, and refinement.

Two-Piece Form (Lid & Bowl)
The proportions are carefully balanced, offering a secure grip and smooth, controlled pouring. Suitable for daily tea sessions as well as formal tea gatherings, it performs as beautifully as it presents.
This is more than a tea vessel. It is a blessing shaped by hand— May wealth arrive swiftly, may fortune follow, and may good tea always be at hand.
